context: In our grant funded civic education project, we wanted to figure out how to engage the preschoolers in order to engage their parents as well. We ended up giving books out to thousands of families to start in-home conversations about democracy and voting.
context: In Texas, localities have the authority to host their own elections outside of the election administration office. It can be very hard to find information about what elections are happening and when, so I mapped out the local elections in spring of 2025 to show community members which elections they need to vote in.
context: Illinois State University has some great resources on and near campus but it is exceedingly difficult to buy clothes at affordable prices. With backing from Student Government and the Office of Sustainability, I led a charge create a sort of thrift store that runs for free on campus that is still running today.
context: The first class I was asked to teach at the University of Houston was titled "Model United Nations". There was no previous history of student travel with the class, but I knew firsthand how impactful student travel and conferences can be for learning. I ended up working with the department and outside funders to get 45 students to Washington D.C. for the National Model U.N. conference, and 25 students to N.Y.C. the following semester.
